Now this brand gives me all sorts of warm and fuzzy feelings, their mission statement is:

“Our commitment is to create an ecosystem of good karma”

I’m a big believer in what goes around comes around and with the brand’s foundation being this I feel Gurunanda oozes trust and sincerity. This Gurunanda essential oils review looks at their quality and sustainability, are they really a contender in the essential oils market?

This brand offers quality products, with sustainable practices and attention to detail with their packaging designs.

If you have read my articles you will be well aware by now that I purchase every oil I write about and have a testing procedure, which you can check out here.

During a recent kite surfing trip to Sri Lanka, I found myself absorbed in the teachings of Ayurveda. How do kitesurfing, Ayurveda and Gurunanda have anything to do with one another you may ask? I’m getting to it, don’t worry! I have to give thanks to my poorly boyfriend who was savagely taken by the man flu. His cries for help led us to the kitesurfing camp’s Ayurveda practitioner. It’s funny how life works sometimes, what seems to be a terrible situation always brings with it a positive outcome eventually.

My poorly boyfriend gobbling up some ginger after he had a visit from the Ayurvedic Doctor.

Why I mention this (unrelated to essential oils) story is because GuruNanda is built on Ayurveda practices, which is a medical system from India that has been used for thousands of years. Using diet, herbal medicines, exercise, meditation, breathing, physical therapy, and other methods to restore ones mind, body and spirit. GuruNanda incorporates Ayurvedic values at every level, they look at all aspects of healing and know that everything is connected. They make top-quality, ethically sourced healing products available to all.

Who are they and what are they about?

Founded by Puneet Nanda in 2015, he is an expert in Ayurvedic Medicine and also a yogi.

The Gurunanda brand came about when P. Nanda came to America from India, over two decades ago. Thinking he knew everything there was to know about wellness, as he was a foreign medical expert and entrepreneur.

He sadly suffered a nervous breakdown, which was actually misdiagnosed as a heart attack. This was due to crazy work hours, a terrible diet, and constant stress. As he lay in the hospital bed, not wanting to be on pills forever more, he had the realization that if he truly wanted to get well, he would have to heal not just his body, but his mind and spirit as well.

As I mentioned before, the most terrible of situations come with the most positive outcomes. And so, Gurunanda was born.

This brand is super personal, I like how the founder Puneet Nanda is scattered all over the website. From the ‘blog posts’ to the ‘our story’ page, the writing style of the owner feels very natural. It’s as if he’s written each heartfelt page with a lot of thought and care. He’s even made a little video for all the questions customers may ask.

I’d also like to add my appreciation for their touch on ways to heal the mind. They offer a FREE Copy of Wall Street Yoga, it gives you meditation techniques, yogic breathing, tips to relax, increase productivity, improve your lifestyle, and how to live a rewarding life. You just have to scroll to the end of their ‘Pillars page’ and pop your email in.

Sustainability & Ethics

Each oil is individually cultivated from its country of origin. Sourcing the plants from farms in each plant’s native environment. Puneet Nanda has a big belief in the ‘Power of Friendship’ and says he has personal relationships with all the farmers he works with.

Map of where all their oils are sourced.

Gurunanda sources its oil directly from its global farm alliance. This cuts out the middlemen, which gives the farmers a chance to be paid directly and fairly by them. No one else is taking a sneaky cut along the way!

They state they work with farmers who are making a positive social, economic, and economic impact. By only purchasing from farmers who build schools for the children in their communities. It’s nice to know you’re helping impact people’s lives when you purchase a product from them.

Are they organic?

Although Gurunanda claims to adhere to every rule that is required to be certified, they decided not to use a governing body for certification. Gurunanda claims that a lot of their oils come from areas where it’s difficult to get USDA certification. Puneet Nanda gives a full explanation of this in a video.

I guess what they are saying is, why double the price of their product for the consumer when they know their quality is top-notch?

I think it’s safe to say that people do feel safer when it has the USDA certificate though, as it’s obviously a governing body with restrictions and protocols.

Quality & Testing

First things first, GuruNanda does not use any synthetic fertilizers, chemical pesticides, or GMOs.

Here’s another another video of Puneet explaining how they test their oils.

They test both in-house and through third-party GC-MS testing, which is something I always like to look out for when choosing essential oils. They even include a copy of each test result on every product detail page for full transparency.

Products

On their sourcing page they mention 13 oils, but they currently only offer 10 different single essential oils and 6 essential oil blends. Compared to their competitors this is in the low range, so you will struggle to find the more rarer oils.

It’s worth keeping in mind that you can’t buy single oils, they either come in packs of 2 or full sets of 6-8. They are very reasonably priced though so don’t let that put you off.

I started with the ‘6 Essential Oils Single Notes Set’ to get a feel of the brand and was not disappointed!

They also offer dental care, humidifiers, diffusers, and beauty products. I haven’t had a chance to delve into these yet, but be sure a review will be up as soon as I do!

Price

Their pricing is super reasonable! A set of 2 essential oils is $17.99 but I always see great offers on them, you just have to keep an eye out.

Shipping

FREE SHIPPING on all retail orders over $100, but this only applies to residents in the Continental United States.

Customer Service

They offer a 7-day money-back guarantee if you are not completely satisfied, I always prefer when a brand does this it’s peace of mind before you’ve even bought anything.

They have a few negative reviews on trust pilot commenting on their customer service, but I never received delayed shipping or a sudden increase in shipping prices. Maybe just something to be aware of just in case? If Amazon’s 4.6-star rating is to go by you can rest assured you’re in safe hands.

Summary

With a brand foundation of karma-fueled vibes, I will continue to buy from Gurunanda when I need basic essential oils. Unfortunately, there is not enough choice for me to only buy from them, but at least the products they do offer are of quality and filled with love.
